Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, met Global Green Growth Initiative (GGGI) Country Representative Laura Jalasjoki to discuss new areas of cooperation, including sustainable financing, carbon markets, and nature-based solutions.
GGGI’s Mission and Global Role
Jalasjoki outlined GGGI’s mandate, noting its 51 member states and its role in supporting low-carbon and climate-resilient development pathways. She stressed that inclusive green growth remains central to the organisation’s global agenda.
Pakistan’s Climate Priorities
Dr. Malik emphasised that Pakistan’s focus is on solutions that address both adaptation and mitigation, particularly in agriculture, the most climate-sensitive sector of the economy. He said partnerships must deliver measurable results and ensure long-term sustainability.
Exploring Carbon Markets
The two sides explored the potential of carbon markets as a key financing tool for green growth. Dr. Malik highlighted the need for international support to bridge viability gaps in carbon trading mechanisms, welcoming GGGI’s technical assistance in helping Pakistan access these opportunities.
Commitment to a Resilient Economy
Discussions also touched on expanding cooperation in adaptation and nature-based strategies. Dr. Malik reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to accelerating the transition toward a green, inclusive, and resilient economy through international collaboration.
