A Chinese company operating in Gwadar’s North Free Zone has exported 81 tons of donkey products to China. Hangeng shipped the goods on October 5 after completing the required customs clearances and export procedures.
The shipment included three consignments, each weighing 27 tons. The products were transported in frozen condition and met the prescribed export requirements, according to Gwadar Pro.
Gwadar Facility Supports Donkey Product Exports
Hangeng operates a modern donkey slaughterhouse in Gwadar’s North Free Zone. The facility was built at a reported cost of $50 million to serve the Chinese market.
The company exports donkey meat, bones and hides to meet demand in China. Donkey hides are particularly important for producing Ejiao, a traditional Chinese product used in traditional medicine.
The facility operates under a policy that prohibits the local sale of its by-products.
Pakistan’s Donkey Population Supports Export Potential
Pakistan has an estimated 5.8 million donkeys, making it the world’s third-largest donkey-owning country, according to the supplied report.
The export of donkey products through Gwadar highlights the role of the North Free Zone in Pakistan-China trade. It also reflects opportunities to develop export activities linked to Pakistan’s livestock sector.
The latest shipment demonstrates continued trade between Pakistan and China through Gwadar. Further growth will depend on market demand, export compliance and the development of related processing facilities.
