Pakistan Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Visits Bangladesh on a four-day official trip from August 21 to 24, 2025, aimed at revitalising trade ties and broadening economic cooperation between the two countries. Upon his arrival in Dhaka, he was warmly received by Bangladesh’s Adviser for Commerce, Sk. Bashir Uddin, along with Pakistan’s High Commissioner, Imran Haider.
The visit comes at a significant political juncture. Bangladesh has been undergoing a reshaping of its foreign relations since the ouster of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina last year. Hasina, known for her close alignment with India, fled to New Delhi following a popular uprising. The political shift has created fresh opportunities for Islamabad and Dhaka to reconnect after years of strained ties rooted in their history since the 1971 war of independence.
During his stay, Jam Kamal Khan is scheduled to hold high-level meetings with his Bangladeshi counterpart, senior government officials, and top business leaders. The discussions will focus on boosting trade, attracting investment, and identifying new avenues for cooperation in sectors such as textiles, agriculture, technology, and energy. Aviation and connectivity are also expected to be key talking points, given the importance of regional integration.
The visit follows Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent engagement with Bangladeshi High Commissioner Md. Iqbal Hussain Khan in Islamabad, where both sides expressed satisfaction over revived diplomatic channels. Sharif recalled his productive exchanges with Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Mohammad Yunus, most notably at the D-8 summit in Cairo, signalling Islamabad’s interest in expanding not just trade but also cultural and people-to-people linkages.
By the conclusion of the trip, both governments are expected to release a joint statement reaffirming their intent to pursue a forward-looking partnership. Pakistan Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Visits Bangladesh at a time when both nations appear ready to reset ties, deepen economic engagement, and build a foundation for long-term cooperation.
