Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed that Pakistan, Bangladesh boost political, economic, and cultural ties as both nations work towards a stronger and more cooperative relationship. In a meeting with Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Md Iqbal Hussain Khan, the Prime Minister welcomed the renewed momentum in bilateral relations, highlighting ongoing efforts to enhance political dialogue, economic partnerships, and cultural exchange programmes. He praised the revival of key bilateral mechanisms, calling them vital to deepening mutual understanding and expanding trade and people-to-people connections.
During the meeting, PM Shehbaz recalled his warm and constructive interactions with Dr. Mohammad Yunus, Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor, including their recent discussions on the sidelines of the D-8 Summit in Cairo. He noted that both leaders had agreed on the importance of diversifying cooperation beyond traditional sectors, focusing on sustainable development, regional connectivity, and the promotion of shared cultural heritage.
The Bangladeshi envoy briefed the Prime Minister on ongoing initiatives to improve travel facilitation, boost trade volumes, and enhance regional connectivity through new infrastructure projects. He stressed Bangladesh’s commitment to working closely with Pakistan in strengthening historical bonds that date back decades.
Both sides acknowledged the vast untapped potential in trade, investment, and tourism. Cultural diplomacy was highlighted as a key avenue for fostering goodwill between their peoples, with joint exhibitions, academic exchanges, and sports events discussed as possible future initiatives. The leaders also agreed to encourage business-to-business networking to explore market opportunities in textiles, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and information technology.
The meeting ended with a joint pledge to sustain momentum and maintain regular high-level exchanges to ensure the partnership continues to grow.
