Pakistan has strongly reiterated its unwavering strategic partnership with China, dismissing suggestions that growing ties with the United States could undermine Islamabad’s relationship with Beijing.
In two separate statements issued on Friday by the Foreign Office and the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the government and military leadership emphasised that Pakistan-China relations are unique, time-tested, and immune to shifting geopolitical alliances.
Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan clarified that Pakistan’s increasing engagement with other countries, including the US, does not and will not affect its close bond with China. “I do not agree with this perception,” he said. “China is a very close friend and iron brother. Our strategic partnership spans decades and stands independently from our relations with any other nation.”
Khan highlighted that Pakistan-China relations are deeply rooted in the principles of international law and the UN Charter. He affirmed that the two sides are working together to maintain a positive momentum across diplomatic, economic, and security domains.
Separately, ISPR reported on a ceremony held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi to mark the 98th founding anniversary of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China. The event was attended by Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, Defence Attaché Major General Wang Zhong, embassy officials, and senior Pakistani military leaders.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal General Syed Asim Munir welcomed the Chinese delegation and extended warm congratulations to the PLA. He praised the PLA’s crucial role in China’s national security and development, while emphasizing the unmatched depth of the Pakistan-China military and strategic relationship.
“Our bond is resilient, time-tested, and stands strong amid regional and global challenges,” General Munir said, calling the PLA and Pakistan Army “true brothers-in-arms.” He reaffirmed the commitment of both militaries to regional peace and shared strategic goals.
The Chinese ambassador thanked the COAS for hosting the commemorative event and acknowledged Pakistan’s vital contribution to counterterrorism efforts. He reaffirmed China’s continued support for Pakistan and underscored the enduring value of their strategic alliance.
This renewed commitment reinforces the message that Pakistan views its relationship with China as foundational and enduring, regardless of changing global alliances.
