United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres arrived in Beijing on Saturday morning to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit 2025, scheduled from August 31 to September 1 in Tianjin, according to CCTV News.
The UN chief has maintained close engagement with global and regional forums. Last year, he participated in the SCO Summit in Astana, Kazakhstan, and also joined the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit in Beijing.
China, a founding member of the United Nations and the first country to sign the UN Charter, continues to play a central role in international cooperation. Its UN representation was formally restored in 1971 under General Assembly Resolution 2758.
