A group of 25 Pakistani students has joined Wuhan Technical College of Communications for a one-year programme focused on cross-border e-commerce, artificial intelligence, and Chinese language training. The initiative reflects growing cooperation between Pakistan and China in the digital economy.

Pakistan’s Rapid E-Commerce Expansion

Pakistan’s e-commerce sector is experiencing strong growth driven by rising internet access and digital adoption. Digital payments now account for 92% of retail transactions, according to the State Bank of Pakistan.

In addition, internet usage continues to expand, with over 150 million users recorded in 2025. This growth is supporting higher online shopping activity and financial digitization.

AI and Digital Trade Driving New Opportunities

Chinese e-commerce platforms are expanding their presence in Pakistan. Companies are introducing AI-based tools, digital storefront systems, and cross-border trade platforms to connect buyers and suppliers more efficiently.

Moreover, new digital initiatives aim to improve supply-demand matching and reduce trade barriers between both countries.

Logistics and Last-Mile Delivery Improvements

Logistics modernization is also reshaping the sector. Automated sorting systems introduced in major cities like Karachi and Lahore have significantly improved delivery efficiency.

As a result, parcel handling errors have dropped sharply, while delivery times have been reduced from hours to minutes in some operations.

Training Pakistan’s Digital Workforce

Educational and training programs are being developed to strengthen Pakistan’s digital skills base. These initiatives focus on e-commerce livestreaming, AI tools, and cross-border trade management.

Furthermore, Chinese training models are being introduced in Pakistan to help students gain practical experience in digital commerce.

Building a Cross-Border Digital Ecosystem

Industry experts believe Pakistan can benefit from localized digital infrastructure, including warehouses, training centers, and online marketplaces.

In addition, partnerships between Chinese and Pakistani firms aim to integrate education, technology, and trade into a unified digital ecosystem.

Conclusion

China-Pakistan cooperation is playing a key role in accelerating Pakistan’s e-commerce growth. As a result, stronger digital infrastructure, skilled talent, and AI-driven platforms are shaping the future of the country’s online economy.
