Pakistan and China have agreed to build an upgraded version 2.0 of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), aiming to strengthen strategic and economic ties. The announcement came during the seventh round of the China-Pakistan Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue, co-chaired by Foreign Ministers Ishaq Dar and Wang Yi in Beijing.
The two countries will prioritize key sectors including industry, agriculture, and mining, while promoting the development and operation of Gwadar Port and ensuring the smooth functioning of the Karakoram Highway. They also plan to enhance Pakistan’s sustainable development capacity and expand cooperation in trade, investment, IT, science, technology, cybersecurity, and vocational education.
Both sides emphasized deepening strategic communication, supporting regional peace, and fostering people-to-people and cultural exchanges. The agreement also highlights multilateral cooperation, counter-terrorism efforts, and joint participation in global initiatives, marking a significant step in advancing the Belt and Road Initiative while strengthening China-Pakistan all-weather strategic partnership.
