Pakistan and China jointly hosted a regional conference titled “ASEAN-to-Pakistan Pathways” to attract Chinese investment for solar PV manufacturing. The event gathered policymakers, industry experts, and stakeholders to translate ASEAN’s solar manufacturing experience into actionable strategies for Pakistan.
Speakers highlighted Pakistan’s growing solar imports from China, the importance of energy security, and the need for bankable manufacturing projects supported by clear policies, prepared SEZs, and reliable execution. The conference emphasized balancing industrial ambitions with investor certainty to secure sustained Chinese participation in Pakistan’s solar sector.
Officials noted that Pakistan’s solar capacity now supplies over 25 percent of utility electricity and stressed that attracting manufacturing investment is vital to reduce import dependence, retain value domestically, and strengthen renewable energy infrastructure for future growth.
