Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Dr. Syed Ali Asad Gillani, inaugurated the annual International Culture Day at Pakistan Embassy College Beijing (PECB) on November 7, 2026.
The event brought together students, diplomats, academics, parents and members of the international community to celebrate cultural diversity, promote cross-cultural dialogue and strengthen friendships among different communities.
The programme provided a platform for students representing more than 50 countries to share their national traditions, heritage, customs and cultural identities.
Students Showcase Cultures from More Than 50 Countries
During his visit, Ambassador Gillani toured the exhibition stalls and interacted with students and participants presenting their countries’ cultural traditions.
The college campus featured traditional music, artwork, food and cultural displays representing Pakistan, China and communities from around the world.
The exhibition offered visitors an opportunity to explore different cultures and learn about the customs and traditions of participating countries. It also encouraged students to appreciate cultural differences and develop stronger connections with their international peers.
Cultural Performances Highlight Pakistan, China and Africa
The event featured a series of student performances showcasing the cultural diversity of participating communities.
Performances highlighted the rich traditions of Pakistan’s provinces, alongside artistic presentations representing Chinese and African cultures.
An International Cultural Walk also formed part of the programme, allowing students to display their national identities through traditional clothing and cultural representations.
Together, the performances and exhibitions transformed the campus into a lively celebration of international heritage and cultural exchange.
Ambassador Highlights PECB’s Role in Pakistan-China Relations
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Gillani highlighted the historic importance of Pakistan Embassy College Beijing as Beijing’s first international school.
He acknowledged the institution’s longstanding contribution to academic excellence and its role in strengthening the educational and cultural dimensions of Pakistan-China relations.
The ambassador said the college provides a distinctive international learning environment where students develop global awareness, mutual respect and an understanding of different societies.
He also emphasised the importance of cultural diplomacy in building lasting relationships between countries and communities.
“Cultural exchanges are indispensable in bringing peoples and communities closer. They foster mutual appreciation and build the enduring bonds of friendship that underpin strong bilateral relations,” Ambassador Gillani said.
He appreciated the college administration, teachers, students and parents for their collective efforts in organising the annual event.
Cultural Diplomacy Strengthens International Friendship
The ambassador’s remarks highlighted the importance of people-to-people connections alongside formal diplomatic and economic cooperation.
International cultural activities allow young people from different backgrounds to interact, exchange experiences and develop a deeper understanding of one another’s traditions.
Such initiatives also contribute to soft power by building goodwill and strengthening relationships through education, culture and personal connections.
For Pakistan and China, educational and cultural exchanges remain important elements of their longstanding partnership. Institutions such as PECB provide opportunities for students from different countries to experience multicultural education and develop international perspectives.
Diplomats and International Community Attend Event
The International Culture Day was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, academics, media representatives, Chinese citizens, parents and members of the Pakistani community in Beijing.
The broad participation reflected the inclusive character of the event and its emphasis on bringing together people from different nationalities and backgrounds.
The annual celebration further highlighted Pakistan Embassy College Beijing’s role as a platform for international education, cultural understanding and friendship among communities.
