An international seminar at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad brought together diplomats, scholars, and policy experts to celebrate 75 years of relations between Pakistan and China.
The event focused on strengthening cooperation in diplomacy, security, and development under the framework of their long-standing “iron-clad” partnership.
CPEC Remains Central to Bilateral Cooperation
Speakers described the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor as the most important pillar of bilateral ties. They highlighted its role in energy, infrastructure, and connectivity projects across Pakistan.
Moreover, experts said CPEC Phase II is shifting toward industrial cooperation, agriculture, Special Economic Zones, and socio-economic development, with Gwadar emerging as a key economic hub.
Expansion into New Strategic Sectors
Participants noted that cooperation is expanding into artificial intelligence, digital technology, climate resilience, space research, and green development.
In addition, speakers emphasized defence, counterterrorism, and regional stability, particularly in relation to Afghanistan and broader South Asian security dynamics.
Historical Foundations of the Partnership
Experts traced the relationship back to 1951, highlighting early diplomatic recognition and major infrastructure milestones such as the Karakoram Highway.
They stressed that the partnership has consistently been based on mutual trust, sovereignty, and non-interference in internal affairs.
Focus on Education and People-to-People Exchange
Speakers also called for stronger academic collaboration, youth engagement, and cultural exchange programs. They noted that long-term sustainability of the relationship depends on deeper people-to-people connections.
Outlook for Future Cooperation
The seminar concluded with a shared view that Pakistan and China will continue expanding cooperation across multiple sectors. Participants described the partnership as a stabilizing force in regional and global affairs.
