 NDMA Chairman meets Chinese ambassador Nong Rong, discusses flood relief measures

The chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Lt. Gen. Inam Haider Malik, met Nong Rong, the ambassador of China, and acknowledged the continued assistance from Beijing for the recovery plan from devastating floods.

They also discussed the various aspects of mutual collaboration and a proactive approach to disaster management in Pakistan, a press statement from Malik’s office said.

Malik thanked the overwhelming Chinese support in rescue and relief operations. He shared details of the transformation plan of the futuristic and technology-driven National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) which will be the interface of integrated emergency response with all stakeholders, including humanitarian agencies and global donors.

The ambassador underscored the strong collaboration at the front of climate-induced disaster management and stressed further expansion of the existing working relations with Pakistan.

He suggested chalking out a comprehensive plan between NDMA and the Ministry of Emergency Management of China to remodel the response mechanism, coupled with technology and information sharing, the establishment of an early warning system and weather prediction analysis.

Rong also stressed enhancing the bilateral communication between NDMA and Beijing.
