Mastung 220kV Grid Boosts Balochistan Power

The National Grid Company (NGC) has chosen Moza Chakol Kalozai, located three kilometres from Mastung city, as the site for a new 220-kilovolt (kV) grid station. The project aims to strengthen Balochistan’s power transmission network and improve electricity reliability across the province.

The selection followed detailed technical surveys, land evaluations, and consultations with multiple government departments. After reviewing all assessments, the Chief Engineer (Design) led the Sitting and Layout Board, which approved Moza Chakol Kalozai as the most feasible site due to its terrain, accessibility, and proximity to existing transmission lines.

According to a senior official from the Ministry of Energy (Power Division), the new grid will help stabilise power supply, reduce voltage fluctuations, and ensure uninterrupted electricity for Mastung, Kalat, Quetta, and nearby areas. The initiative supports the federal government’s wider plan to upgrade Pakistan’s transmission infrastructure and expand sustainable energy access throughout Balochistan.

Meanwhile, progress continues on related transmission projects, including the 765/500/220/132kV Islamabad West Grid Station (Lot-IV), a USD 180 million project financed by the World Bank. Implemented by M/s NWEPDI–TBEA JV with M/s GOPA Intec as consultant, the project began in May 2024 and is scheduled for completion by January 2027. Construction and equipment procurement are moving steadily, with the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) reporting 18% physical and 16.8% financial progress.

Together, the Mastung and Islamabad West Grid Stations represent vital steps toward modernising Pakistan’s power infrastructure, enhancing transmission efficiency, and ensuring balanced electricity distribution across all regions.
