Pakistan is set to deploy a sophisticated weather alert system along the Islamabad–Lahore Motorway (M-2), offering real-time updates to ensure safer travel for motorists. The system includes 14 automated weather stations, visibility and air-quality sensors, and satellite data to track conditions like fog, rainfall, and wind.
Developed through a collaboration between WeatherWalay and One Network, it delivers alerts instantly via smartphone apps, web platforms, and SMD screens at toll plazas. This enables authorities, motorway operators, and travelers to access the same hyperlocal data for improved route planning and hazard awareness.
The system’s capabilities extend beyond road safety, supporting agriculture, irrigation, early warnings for pests and dengue, air-quality monitoring, logistics, and tourism. By integrating global and local climate models, Pakistan is making significant strides in modernizing its weather infrastructure and ensuring public safety across sectors.
