UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has welcomed China’s Global Governance Initiative (GGI), unveiled earlier this week during the “SCO Plus” meeting in Tianjin. His spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, confirmed the UN chief’s remarks, stressing that Guterres highlighted the importance of safeguarding the international system with the United Nations at its core and an order rooted in international law.
In his address at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation gathering, Guterres underscored that the initiative aligns with multilateralism and the principle of placing people first. He further noted that as the UN marks its 80th anniversary, the global community must strengthen international cooperation to meet 21st-century challenges.
