Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, is set to launch two new metro lines—Line 10 and Line 12—on Sunday, significantly advancing the city’s urban rail infrastructure, according to the city’s metro operator.
Line 10 will feature the Grade of Automation 4 (GoA4), the highest level of automation in train operations. This advanced system enables fully driverless trains, capable of automatic start, stop, and operational mode changes without any onboard staff.
Stretching 19.3 kilometers with 13 stations, Line 10 is designed to improve connectivity across central districts including Tianhe, Yuexiu, Haizhu, and Liwan. The initial section to be opened spans 17.2 kilometers from Xilang to Yangji East, with 12 stations—five of which serve as transfer points.
Line 12, on the other hand, runs 37.6 kilometers from the southeast to the northwest of the city and will also begin service on Sunday. This new route aims to expand Guangzhou’s metro coverage and improve transit access across various neighborhoods.
Together, Lines 10 and 12 will form a major “X”-shaped diagonal corridor in the city’s rail network. Their launch is expected to enhance travel convenience, especially ahead of the 15th National Games and the 9th Special Olympics, scheduled to be held later this year in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
