FO Denounces Israeli Aggression, Calls Out Violations
Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) denounces Israeli aggression and backs Qatar’s sovereignty after Israel’s recent strikes on Doha. On Friday, FO spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan called the attacks a blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter. He described them as reckless and provocative, urging the global community to hold Israel accountable for its “unprovoked and unlawful aggression.”
PM Shehbaz Meets Qatari Emir After Strikes
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif travelled to Doha soon after the September 9 attack. He met Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to express Pakistan’s solidarity. The premier conveyed condolences over the loss of lives and reaffirmed full support for Qatar’s sovereignty. He stressed that Israel’s “brazen aggression must be stopped” and urged the Muslim Ummah to unite against such provocations.
FO Denounces Israeli Aggression, Supports UNSC Action
At Qatar’s request, and with Pakistan’s backing, the UN Security Council (UNSC) held an emergency session supported by Algeria and Somalia. Pakistan’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, warned that Israel’s actions were designed to sabotage peace talks and prolong civilian suffering. He declared that Israel’s policies clash with international law and global peace efforts.
Qatar’s Mediation Efforts Undermined
Qatar has long played a central role in mediating Gaza ceasefire talks. Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani accused Israel of deliberately derailing peace efforts but pledged to continue mediation. Ambassador Ahmad echoed this, urging the UNSC to protect mediators, ensure accountability for Israel, and uphold UN principles.
Wider Diplomacy and Regional Engagements
The FO also highlighted recent high-level engagements. Pakistan hosted Kazakhstan’s Deputy PM Murat Nurtleu and Türkiye’s Defence Minister Yasar Güler. Islamabad also assumed chairmanship of the SCO’s Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS). In the same briefing, Shafqat Ali Khan condemned India’s human rights violations in IIOJK, including the denial of bail to Kashmiri leader Shabbir Shah and the takeover of schools run by Falah-e-Aam Trust.
