Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday received a telephone call from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who expressed deep condolences and solidarity with Pakistan over the widespread destruction caused by recent floods across several regions of the country.
President Erdogan conveyed heartfelt sympathies on the tragic loss of lives and property, assuring that Türkiye stood firmly beside Pakistan in this hour of difficulty. He emphasised that Ankara was ready to extend all possible assistance, including expertise and resources for ongoing rescue and relief operations.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while expressing gratitude, said President Erdogan’s message reflected the historic and time-tested brotherly relations between the two nations. He underlined that Pakistan and Türkiye had always supported each other through natural disasters, crises, and global challenges, and this spirit of solidarity further strengthened their bonds.
During the exchange, both leaders also recalled their recent interactions earlier this year, noting the positive outcomes of bilateral cooperation in trade, defence, and humanitarian assistance. They expressed the hope of meeting again soon on the sidelines of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, China, to continue discussions on enhancing strategic and economic partnership.
The prime minister highlighted the importance of Türkiye’s continued support in times of adversity, saying that the Turkish nation had always demonstrated exceptional generosity towards Pakistan. He reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to working closely with Ankara in strengthening cooperation at regional and international forums.
The leaders also agreed that Pakistan-Türkiye relations would continue to expand beyond political solidarity, focusing on trade, investment, and people-to-people linkages in the coming years.
