Deadly Gold Mine Collapse in China Kills Seven Workers
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Seven workers were killed in a gold mine accident in Shandong province, eastern China, when a cage fell down a mine shaft on Saturday, state-run CCTV reported. Authorities have launched an urgent investigation into the cause and whether there was any attempt to cover it up.

The mine is owned by Zhaojin Mining Industry, one of China’s leading gold producers. Shares of the company fell by 6% following news of the accident. Emergency management and public security departments are coordinating efforts to prevent similar incidents in other mines and hazardous operations.

China’s emergency management ministry has announced inspections of mines, chemical plants, and other industrial sites ahead of the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday. Officials are emphasizing stricter safety measures to prevent accidents, especially during peak holiday operations when industrial activity increases
