SK Hydro Private Limited launched its eighth annual afforestation campaign along the Kunhar River, combining environmental sustainability with clean energy development under the CPEC hydropower initiative. The drive, themed “Beautify the Kunhar River Bank, Build a Green Power Station Together,” was conducted with local authorities, forestry and environmental departments, and the project’s operation and maintenance contractor.
Officials stated that over 160,000 trees have been planted since the campaign began, helping stabilize slopes, prevent soil erosion, and strengthen biodiversity along the river basin. The initiative also protects infrastructure and revitalizes the surrounding natural landscape, reflecting a long-term commitment to ecological sustainability.
The Suki Kinari Hydropower Project, China Energy Engineering Corporation’s largest overseas greenfield investment, started commercial operations on September 14, 2024. Since then, it has generated more than 3.1 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity, contributing to Pakistan’s renewable energy transition and optimizing the national energy mix.
