World Bank South Asia Regional Director for Infrastructure Guanghze Chen said on Wednesday afternoon that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was bound to boost the Maritime Sector in Pakistan.
In a meeting with Pakistani Federal Minister Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi here, Guanghze Chen agreed that the CPEC will develop the Maritime Sector in Pakistan, an official statement noted.
Guanghze Chen emphasized on ensuring to capitalize on the infrastructure development that comes with CPEC.
Syed Ali Haider Zaidi discussed the importance of CPEC in the region, connecting the Central Asian Republics to Pakistani ports, giving them access to huge markets.
The minister believed Pakistan was on the road to become a Maritime Power and the partnership with China was playing a pivotal role in achieving that goal.
During the meeting, Guanghze Chen offered help to improve the efficiency of the ports and logistics from the World Bank.
The minister agreed on improving the efficiency of the ports and identified key areas where the World Bank’s support could be of great help.
While sharing his vision for Blue Economy, the minister apprised Chen about the growth challenges that Pakistan faces and the work that is being done.
Senior level World Bank Officers accompanied Guanghze Chen during the meeting. Other matters of mutual interest were discussed, said the official statement.
Secretary Ministry of Maritime Affairs Rizwan Ahmed and the Joint Secretary Zahid Masood were also present.
