The Communist Party of China (CPC) will convene the fourth plenary session of its 20th Central Committee in Beijing this October, as confirmed during a Political Bureau meeting chaired by General Secretary Xi Jinping on Wednesday.
According to the agenda, the session will review the Political Bureau’s work and focus on drafting proposals for China’s 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030), which will shape the country’s national economic and social development strategy. The upcoming plan is seen as critical for reinforcing China’s path toward achieving socialist modernization.
The meeting also assessed the current economic landscape and laid out key priorities for the latter half of 2025. Leaders acknowledged that while China faces growing uncertainty, global risks, and complex challenges, the nation’s long-term economic fundamentals remain strong. They cited enduring advantages such as a vast domestic market, a complete industrial chain, abundant talent, and the institutional strength of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
The second half of the year will be pivotal in maintaining momentum, and the CPC emphasized that China still holds significant strategic opportunities for development amid the evolving global environment.
