Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy on Friday in Kuala Lumpur, stating that, guided by the leadership of both countries, China-UK relations are steadily improving and progressing along the right path.
As a senior official of the Communist Party of China, Wang emphasized the need for both nations to revive their original goal of being strategic partners. He called for deepened cooperation based on mutual benefit, respect, and effective management of differences to meet the broader expectations of their societies.
Wang, while, highlighting the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, noted that as founding members of the post-war international order and permanent UN Security Council members, China and the UK share the responsibility of upholding global peace. He stressed the importance of defending the legacy of WWII, protecting free trade, and contributing to global stability and development.
Lammy acknowledged the positive momentum in bilateral ties and increasing exchanges across various sectors. He expressed the UK’s desire to enhance communication, pursue concrete cooperation, and expand collaboration in areas like economy and trade.
Reaffirming the UK’s commitment to the one-China policy, Lammy stressed the importance of building stable and mature relations with China.
The two leaders also discussed pressing global issues, including the Iranian nuclear program and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
