Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized on Friday that China and the United States must collaborate to discover a proper and constructive path for coexistence in the evolving global landscape.
As a senior member of the Communist Party of China’s Political Bureau, Wang expressed hope that the U.S. would adopt a more objective, pragmatic, and rational perspective when engaging with China.
His remarks came during a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, held in Kuala Lumpur on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and associated events.
Wang elaborated on China’s core stance regarding bilateral ties, stressing the need to implement the strategic understandings reached by the two presidents through concrete actions and policies.
He underscored that U.S. policy toward China should prioritize peaceful coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation, urging Washington to engage with Beijing on the basis of equality, respect, and reciprocity.
The two sides used the opportunity to exchange views on bilateral relations as well as pressing international and regional issues.
Describing the discussion as “positive, pragmatic, and constructive,” both parties agreed to enhance communication and dialogue through diplomatic channels across different levels, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties, manage disagreements, and identify new areas of cooperation.
