China has announced that Vice Premier Liu Guozhong, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, will visit Guinea and Sierra Leone from November 10 to 16, marking another milestone in Beijing’s deepening engagement with Africa. The visit aims to consolidate China’s strategic partnerships, enhance economic cooperation, and advance the outcomes of the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit.
According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Liu Guozhong will attend the inauguration ceremony of the Simandou Iron Ore Mine Project in Guinea on November 11 as President Xi Jinping’s Special Representative. The project, one of the world’s largest untapped iron ore reserves, symbolizes growing industrial collaboration between China and African nations.
A Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Guinea and Sierra Leone are China’s long-standing friends and comprehensive strategic partners. The visit, they noted, would “renew traditional friendship and strengthen practical cooperation across multiple sectors,” while boosting the shared vision of development under the FOCAC framework.
China congratulated the Guinean government on the commissioning of the Simandou project and reaffirmed its commitment to helping transform Guinea’s resource wealth into sustainable growth. The spokesperson emphasized that China seeks “mutual benefit and win-win results” through joint development and shared prosperity.
Highlighting the broader context, the ministry noted that the 2024 FOCAC Beijing Summit marked the beginning of a “new era of all-weather China-Africa partnership.” Since then, both sides have been implementing key projects across the continent, reflecting China’s dedication to a community of shared future and deeper South-South cooperation.
