China’s vice FM meets Pakistani ambassador in Beijing reiterating China’s backing for regional peace.
China’s Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong held talks with Pakistan’s ambassador in Beijing to address the recent escalation of tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi, and voiced China’s backing for a durable ceasefire, according to Reuters on Wednesday.
The meeting came in the wake of heightened hostilities between India and Pakistan, involving missile strikes, drone activity, and artillery fire across their shared border, sparking international concern and appeals for restraint.
In an official statement, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that Sun reiterated Beijing’s endorsement of a stable and long-term ceasefire between the two South Asian countries during his discussion with Ambassador Khalil Hashmi
Sun stated that China supports efforts by Pakistan and India to reach a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire, and expressed Beijing’s willingness to continue playing a positive and constructive role in this process.
As a close ally of Pakistan, China has maintained strong strategic ties with Islamabad, particularly in diplomatic and defense cooperation.
Amid the recent military tensions, reports surfaced indicating that Pakistan deployed Chinese-manufactured J-10C fighter jets and PL-15 air-to-air missiles in its combat operations.
This deployment marked the first known operational use of the J-10C jets in conflict, underlining both the advanced capabilities of Chinese defense technology and China’s central role as Pakistan’s key military partner.
Although China has expressed support for Pakistan, it has also emphasized the importance of calm and dialogue in managing regional disputes.
In an earlier statement, China’s foreign ministry urged both India and Pakistan to maintain peace, exercise restraint, and settle their disagreements through peaceful discussions and negotiations.
Beijing has also welcomed the recent ceasefire deal between India and Pakistan, which was achieved through international mediation efforts.
