China, Tanzania, and Zambia have agreed to jointly develop the TAZARA Railway prosperity belt to drive sustainable regional growth. The agreement was announced during the ground-breaking ceremony attended by Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, and Tanzanian Vice President Emmanuel Nchimbi. The project aims to revitalize the railway and unlock economic potential along its route.
Under the guidance of the three nations’ leaders, the revitalized TAZARA Railway will foster freedom, friendship, green development, and shared prosperity. The governments emphasized principles of mutual respect, joint contribution, and equitable benefits for local communities. The railway will serve as a path for regional socio-economic growth.
The China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) will oversee the project, replacing sleepers, laying 390 kilometers of new rail, repairing bridges, and upgrading power and communication systems. Passenger services will be optimized, production and living facilities enhanced, and a training center established. The project is expected to create over 20,000 jobs.
