Gaborone City Mayor Oarabile Motlaleng praised China’s rapid growth in infrastructure, environmental protection, and solar energy during a dialogue event with the Chinese ambassador in Botswana. He expressed a strong commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation for mutual benefits.
Motlaleng highlighted his delegation’s productive visit to Fujian and Linyi in China, noting that local-level collaboration can create more business opportunities and employment for both nations. He emphasized the importance of deepening ties between city and provincial governments.
Chinese Ambassador Fan Yong said China and Botswana are celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations marked by high-level visits, people-to-people exchanges, and strong cooperation. He stressed that local government partnerships play a key role in improving governance and regional development.
The ambassador called for aligning China’s 15th Five-Year Plan with Botswana’s national development plans, saying China’s advances in digitalization, green energy, and infrastructure will support Botswana’s economic transformation and diversification.
