China Rejects UK Sanctions, Calls Them Unilateral after London announced restrictions on several entities and individuals, including three Chinese companies, accusing them of supplying Russia with military-related equipment.
In a statement issued by the Chinese Embassy in London, the spokesperson strongly condemned the move, calling the sanctions unilateral, without legal foundation, and damaging to the legitimate rights of Chinese enterprises. The embassy confirmed that Beijing has lodged stern representations with the UK government over what it described as a serious violation of fair trade principles.
The spokesperson reiterated Beijing’s long-standing position on the Ukraine conflict, underlining that China has never provided lethal weapons to any party involved. Instead, China has exercised strict export controls on dual-use items and consistently advocated for peace talks. “China has always maintained an objective stance, believing dialogue and negotiation remain the only viable solution,” the embassy emphasised.
Highlighting concerns over economic disruption, the statement stressed that normal cooperation between Chinese and Russian enterprises should not be politicised or undermined by external interference. The embassy warned that such actions only damage trust and stability in global markets.
The spokesperson urged London to revoke the sanctions immediately and correct its “wrongdoing.” Failure to do so, it warned, would compel Beijing to take “all necessary measures” to safeguard the lawful rights and interests of its companies.
By framing the sanctions as politically motivated, China positioned itself as a neutral actor seeking peace while defending the autonomy of its economic relations. The embassy argued that such punitive measures not only harm Chinese businesses but also undermine international efforts toward dialogue and conflict resolution.
With tensions already heightened by the Ukraine crisis, Beijing’s firm stance signals that any further escalation could strain UK-China ties and complicate global trade relations.
