At a high-level United Nations meeting on the two-state solution, China reiterated its firm stance on establishing an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. Chinese Special Envoy for the Middle East, Zhai Jun, emphasised the need for concrete international action to revive peace efforts and end the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Zhai presented five key proposals: initiating an urgent and complete ceasefire, supporting Palestinian governance in both Gaza and the West Bank, promoting internal Palestinian unity, maintaining diplomatic momentum for the two-state framework, and adopting a sustainable and cooperative approach to regional security.
He urged the UN to admit Palestine as a full member state without delay and called on countries yet to recognise Palestine to take immediate steps toward recognition. Zhai emphasised that the two-state solution remains the only viable and widely accepted pathway to resolving the Palestinian conflict.
China expressed hope that the meeting would clarify a timeline and roadmap for peace, and pledged to work with the global community to push forward a just, lasting resolution based on ceasefire progress in Gaza.
