Chinese Defence Minister Dong Jun stated at the opening of the 12th Beijing Xiangshan Forum that Taiwan is part of China and will always remain so. It was emphasised that the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is prepared to counter external interference and prevent any separatist attempts from taking root.
It was further highlighted that 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of Taiwan’s recovery, a milestone directly linked to the outcomes of World War II. According to Dong, the return of Taiwan as part of China was an undeniable result of wartime victory and the post-war international order. Through this framing, the historical and legal facts were presented as beyond dispute.
Transitioning to national security, Dong noted that the PLA has consistently been regarded as a formidable and indestructible force. It was underscored that under no circumstances would any “Taiwan independence” movement be allowed to succeed.
By linking the Taiwan issue to the post-war global order, the defence minister positioned the matter as not only a question of sovereignty but also one of international stability. Thus, the reaffirmation that Taiwan is part of China was presented as central to both China’s unity and broader global security.
