Chinese President Xi Jinping and Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani exchanged congratulatory messages on Saturday to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Mauritania.
President Xi highlighted that over the past six decades, despite changes in global dynamics, both countries have upheld mutual respect and equality, serving as a model of solidarity and win-win cooperation among developing nations.
He noted that bilateral ties have continued to grow steadily in recent years, with enhanced political trust and fruitful cooperation across a broad range of sectors.
Xi also recalled his meeting with President Ghazouani during the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit last year, where they agreed to upgrade bilateral relations to a strategic partnership, opening a new chapter in their diplomatic engagement.
He emphasized his commitment to deepening the relationship and suggested using the 60th anniversary as a starting point to advance traditional friendship, strengthen trust and collaboration, and jointly chart a new course for their strategic partnership to benefit both peoples.
President Ghazouani, in his message, echoed these sentiments, noting that the China-Mauritania relationship has developed into a strong friendship marked by extensive cooperation and mutual support in international forums over the past 60 years.
He added that their decision to elevate ties to a strategic partnership at the FOCAC summit reflects the growing depth of the relationship, which is expected to contribute to global peace, prosperity, and well-being.
On the same day, Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Mauritanian Prime Minister Mokhtar Ould Diay also exchanged messages of congratulations.
Premier Li expressed China’s readiness to work with Mauritania to implement the important agreements made by their presidents and to further expand the content of their strategic partnership.
Prime Minister Ould Diay reaffirmed Mauritania’s commitment to the one-China principle and expressed a willingness to strengthen the bilateral partnership under the leadership of both nations.
