China launches Long March-12 rocket with Internet Satellites on Monday, successfully placing a new batch of internet satellites into low Earth orbit. The launch took place at 6:21 p.m. from the Hainan commercial spacecraft launch site, marking the rocket’s second flight and the 587th mission in the Long March series.
Developed by the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology, the Long March-12 rocket with internet satellites is central to China’s growing commercial space ambitions. It can carry up to 12 tonnes to low Earth orbit and 6 tonnes to a 700-kilometre sun-synchronous orbit, playing a key role in expanding national satellite networking and space access capabilities.
The payload included the seventh group of low-orbit internet satellites, all produced by Beijing-based GalaxySpace. The company highlighted its smart manufacturing approach, using AI-driven assembly lines, digital manufacturing systems, and automated testing to streamline production and reduce development time.
This mission reaffirms China’s commitment to strengthening its commercial space sector and building a robust satellite internet infrastructure.
