China officially launched its permanent mission to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), hosting a reception at the Chinese Embassy in Britain. The event was attended by nearly 300 guests, including IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Domingues, heads of delegations, diplomats, and representatives from the maritime sector.
Chinese Ambassador to Britain and permanent representative to the IMO, Zheng Zeguang, said the mission reflects China’s strong commitment to multilateralism and the United Nations system. He emphasized that maritime transport is a vital link between China and the world and that the mission will strengthen global maritime governance.
Li Yang, vice minister of transport and head of China’s delegation to the 34th IMO Assembly, highlighted that the mission will facilitate coordination, deepen international exchanges, and contribute to building a modern maritime transport system. He also reiterated China’s commitment to fulfilling its international obligations and supporting global economic stability.
Guests, including Domingues, praised China’s achievements in maritime development and its contribution to international maritime cooperation. Officials noted that the permanent mission will play a key role in enhancing coordination, supporting resilient supply chains, and promoting safe, efficient, and sustainable maritime operations worldwide.
