China Film Week officially opened at the Earth Sciences Auditorium of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) on October 29. The China Cultural Center in Pakistan organised the event to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.
The opening ceremony attracted more than 800 attendees, including university officials, faculty members, students and local residents. The strong turnout reflected public interest in Chinese culture and growing people-to-people engagement between the two countries.
Organisers highlighted cinema as an effective medium for cultural exchange. They noted that films offer audiences an opportunity to understand another country’s history, values and society through powerful storytelling.
Two Chinese Films Featured at the Event
The film week features two acclaimed Chinese productions, The Battle at Lake Changjin and Home Coming. Organisers selected both films to introduce Pakistani audiences to different aspects of Chinese cinema and storytelling.
The first screening, The Battle at Lake Changjin, presented a story of sacrifice, brotherhood and patriotism. Its portrayal of soldiers facing overwhelming challenges drew an emotional response from viewers.
The second film, Home Coming, focused on diplomats working to evacuate Chinese citizens from a conflict-affected region. The story highlighted themes of courage, unity and the protection of citizens abroad.
Together, the films offered audiences different perspectives on China’s history, society and national experiences.
Cinema Strengthens Pakistan-China Cultural Exchange
The event provided a platform for Pakistani students and other attendees to engage with Chinese culture beyond traditional academic and diplomatic exchanges.
Several young Pakistani viewers said the films offered a fresh perspective on Chinese society. They also identified themes of perseverance and resilience that they felt resonated with Pakistan’s national character.
China Film Week forms part of broader cultural engagement marking 75 years of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations. Through cinema, the initiative aims to encourage mutual understanding and strengthen connections between people in both countries.
