China-build 1043-meter tunnel of KKH project completed meeting Chinese standards of quality. The longest tunnel of the Karakoram Highway relocation project, built by China, was successfully completed on Thursday.
Known as the Logro-B tunnel, this 1,403-meter section of the highway connecting Pakistan and China has been constructed following Chinese tunnel design standards.
The highway realignment is being carried out by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC). The project features seven tunnels and three bridges in northern Pakistan’s mountainous terrain, an area frequently affected by natural disasters like earthquakes and landslides.
In the upcoming phase, the project team will focus on completing the remaining tunnel and bridge works, aiming to meet high standards of quality and construction.
The Karakoram Highway, also referred to as the China-Pakistan Friendship Highway, is the only overland route between the two countries situated in the Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan region.
