China has expressed its readiness to deepen strategic cooperation with Brazil, aiming to counter global volatility through stronger bilateral ties. The commitment came during a phone call between China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, and Celso Amorim, chief advisor to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
Wang Yi, who serves as director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs and a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China, emphasised that under the leadership of Presidents Xi Jinping and Lula da Silva, both countries are advancing toward building a shared future rooted in fairness and sustainability.
Highlighting their complementary strengths and stable partnership, Wang stated that China and Brazil, as the largest developing nations in the eastern and western hemispheres, have consistently defended one another’s right to development while jointly opposing unilateral tariffs and external pressure tactics.
China reaffirmed its support for Brazil’s development goals and emphasised its continued commitment to safeguarding the interests of the Global South. Wang also underscored the countries’ role in fostering multipolarity, reinforcing international norms, and promoting global justice.
Amorim echoed similar sentiments, affirming Brazil’s willingness to boost cooperation in trade, finance, and multilateral platforms like BRICS. He expressed Brazil’s commitment to working with China in enhancing BRICS mechanisms, promoting self-reliance among developing nations, and ensuring a fair global order.
Discussing the Ukraine crisis, both sides called for continued dialogue within the Global South and greater engagement through the Group of Friends for Peace to seek a political resolution and a lasting ceasefire.
