Chinese Premier Li Qiang said on Saturday that China is ready to work closely with Brazil by utilizing their complementary strengths and broadening cooperation in areas like the digital and green economy, scientific innovation, and aerospace. He made these remarks during a meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva upon arriving in Rio de Janeiro for the 17th BRICS Summit.
Li conveyed warm greetings from President Xi Jinping and highlighted that China-Brazil relations are at an all-time high. He noted that both nations are working together to build a shared future focused on justice and sustainability. He also recalled the consensus reached during Lula’s visit to China in May, where both leaders agreed to uphold multilateralism and deepen bilateral ties.
Premier Li emphasized China’s readiness to elevate the quality and scope of its cooperation with Brazil, aiming for tangible results that benefit both populations. He expressed willingness to deepen collaboration in trade, finance, and infrastructure through the Belt and Road framework.
Li also encouraged both countries to jointly organize the China-Brazil Year of Culture in 2026 and to increase engagement in education, youth exchanges, and healthcare. He stressed the need to enhance public support and people-to-people ties to strengthen bilateral friendship.
Recognizing both nations as strong advocates of multilateralism and free trade, Li said China is keen to improve coordination with Brazil in global platforms like the UN, BRICS, and the G20. He underscored joint efforts to support an inclusive, multipolar world and more equitable globalization. He also voiced support for Brazil’s hosting of the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belem.
President Lula, in response, asked Li to convey his regards to President Xi and noted the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations. He reaffirmed Brazil’s commitment to strengthening high-level engagement and implementing the bilateral agreements reached earlier in the year.
Lula expressed Brazil’s interest in boosting cooperation with China across various sectors including economy, science and technology, finance, and aerospace. He also highlighted the importance of joint efforts on climate change and welcomed China’s participation in COP30.
Additionally, Lula congratulated China on successfully hosting the recent China-CELAC ministerial meeting and confirmed Brazil’s intent to deepen multilateral cooperation, resist unilateralism, and jointly promote peace and global development.
Following the meeting, both countries signed a series of cooperation agreements covering areas such as finance, artificial intelligence, strategic development planning, and aerospace.
