Pakistan entered a new era of digital transformation as Zong, a subsidiary of China Mobile Limited, officially obtained its 5G license and launched next-generation services in over 16 major cities, including Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, and Quetta. The rollout marks a major milestone in Pakistan-China digital cooperation and the country’s modernization efforts.
Zong plans to deploy and upgrade over 1,000 5G sites nationwide throughout 2026, reflecting a long-term commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s digital ecosystem. Early trials achieved speeds exceeding 1.4Gbps, positioning Pakistan as a rapidly emerging market for advanced telecommunications technologies.
Industry experts highlight that the Chinese-backed infrastructure brings global innovation standards and investment, supporting smart industries, digital healthcare, precision agriculture, and broader economic growth in line with Pakistan Vision 2030 and the Digital Pakistan initiative.
