Pakistan has exported 81 tons of donkey meat, bones and hides to China through Gwadar. The shipments left on October 5 from a Chinese-operated facility in Gwadar North Free Zone.
The company, Hangeng, dispatched three consignments. Each shipment weighed 27 tons. All consignments met the required standards and completed customs clearance and export procedures.
Donkey Meat Shipments Leave Gwadar
A Hangeng official told Gwadar Pro that the donkey meat was transported in frozen condition by sea. The facility follows a strict export policy within the Gwadar Free Zone.
Under this policy, products can leave the facility only by air or sea. This ensures that no donkey meat or related by-products enter Pakistan’s local market.
$50 Million Slaughterhouse Supports Exports
Pakistan completed the construction of a modern donkey slaughterhouse last year. The China-led project cost $50 million and was designed to process donkey meat and hides for export.
The facility operates in Gwadar’s North Free Zone. It supports Pakistan’s efforts to develop export-oriented industries and expand trade with China.
China Drives Demand for Donkey Products
China has a significant market for donkey meat and hides. Donkey hides are especially valuable because they provide raw material for Ejiao, a traditional Chinese medicinal product.
Pakistan has one of the world’s largest donkey populations. It ranks third globally, with approximately 5.8 million donkeys.
The latest shipment highlights Gwadar’s role in Pakistan-China trade. It also reflects growing opportunities for specialized exports through the Gwadar Free Zone.
