Pakistan and Türkiye have agreed to provide military forces and capabilities to Saudi Arabia amid escalating security threats from Yemen’s Houthi group.
The decision came during an emergency meeting of the Strategic Political and Defense Committee of the Mecca Alliance in Riyadh.
Three Countries Strengthen Defense Commitments
Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye issued a joint statement following the meeting. They reaffirmed their commitment to the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement.
Under the agreement, Pakistan and Türkiye will ensure the rapid deployment of forces and military capabilities to Saudi Arabia when required.
Moreover, the three countries said the security of each member forms an integral part of their collective security.
Strong Condemnation of Attacks
The three countries strongly condemned attempted attacks targeting Mecca and Madinah. They also denounced continued strikes against Saudi cities and civilian and economic facilities.
Furthermore, they agreed that implementing the defense agreement through practical measures would strengthen deterrence, military readiness and operational integration.
Rising Houthi Threats
The latest decision comes as Houthi attacks against Saudi interests continue to raise security concerns.
The Houthi group announced a maritime ban on Saudi shipping in July. Since then, it has launched attacks targeting Saudi tankers and oil facilities.
As a result, Riyadh has sought stronger security coordination with its regional partners.
Mecca Defense Agreement
Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye signed the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement on August 7 in Mecca.
The agreement establishes a collective defense principle under which an attack on one signatory is considered an attack on all three.
Consequently, the latest decision marks a move toward putting the agreement into practical operation and strengthening joint military preparedness.
