Pakistan’s exports reached $2.94 billion in September 2026, marking a 17.6% increase compared with the same month last year. Provisional data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) showed continued growth in export earnings.
Exports also increased by 16.1% from August, when shipments totalled $2.53 billion.
Imports Increase Amid Export Growth
Pakistan’s imports rose to $6.49 billion in September, up 11.1% year-on-year from $5.85 billion in September 2025.
Meanwhile, imports increased 11.5% compared with August’s $5.82 billion. As a result, the country’s trade deficit widened to $3.56 billion.
This represents a 6.2% increase from the $3.35 billion deficit recorded in September last year.
Trade Deficit Widens in First Quarter
Pakistan’s trade figures also showed a wider deficit during the first three months of the 2026–27 fiscal year.
Exports rose 10.8% year-on-year to $8.42 billion. However, imports grew faster, increasing 13.2% to $19.22 billion.
Consequently, the trade deficit reached $10.79 billion, up 15.1% compared with the same period last year.
PBS Says Figures Remain Provisional
The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics said the figures remain provisional. Authorities may revise the data after including additional customs records.
The latest figures highlight rising export earnings alongside higher import costs. However, the widening trade deficit remains a key feature of Pakistan’s external trade position.
