A high-level Pakistani delegation will attend a meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee (SPDC) in Saudi Arabia today. The committee operates under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.
The delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
Saudi Arabia and Türkiye to Join Meeting
Foreign and defence ministers from Saudi Arabia and Türkiye will also participate. Their respective Chiefs of General Staff are expected to attend as well.
The meeting will bring together senior officials from all three countries. It will provide a platform to discuss regional security and ongoing cooperation.
Regional Developments on Agenda
The participants will review the latest developments in the region. They will also assess cooperation under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.
The agreement, signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye on August 7, 2026, aims to strengthen collective defence cooperation and promote regional peace and stability.
Pakistan Reaffirms Regional Role
Pakistan’s Foreign Office said the country’s participation reflects its commitment to contributing to regional peace and stability.
The SPDC held its inaugural meeting in Istanbul on August 31. Pakistan was represented by Dar, Asif and Field Marshal Asim Munir at that meeting.
The latest meeting will provide another opportunity for the three countries to coordinate on shared regional security concerns and strengthen cooperation under the Makkah framework.
