Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended the opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games in Bishkek.
Upon arrival, Sadyr Japarov received the prime minister at the ceremony. Several other heads of state attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State meeting also joined the event.
Pakistan Athletes Receive Warm Applause
A Pakistani contingent is participating in the World Nomad Games. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stood and applauded when the athletes entered the stadium.
The crowd also welcomed the Pakistani team with loud cheers. Pakistani athletes will compete in several traditional sporting disciplines.
Traditional Sports at the Nomad Games
The World Nomad Games celebrate traditional sports rooted in Central Asian cultures. The event features wrestling, horse racing, traditional hunting, archery, and intellectual games.
Moreover, the games promote cultural exchange and mutual understanding among participating countries. They also encourage stronger people-to-people cooperation.
PM Shehbaz Meets Global Leaders
During the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held informal meetings with several international leaders.
He interacted with Russian President Vladimir Putin, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.
He also met Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Bilateral Relations Discussed
The prime minister also interacted with leaders from Tajikistan, Laos, Togo, and Mongolia.
These informal discussions covered matters of mutual interest. They also included Pakistan’s bilateral relations with the participating countries.
Promoting Regional Cooperation
The 6th World Nomad Games aim to strengthen cultural ties and cooperation among nations. Kyrgyzstan is hosting the event from Monday through October 6.
