A healthcare skills training programme in Gwadar has completed its first phase, with 120 female students graduating from the initiative. The second phase has now begun.
The programme brings together the District Education Department, Education Support Programme (ESP), UNICEF and the European Union. It aims to give young students practical healthcare skills alongside their formal education.
Eight-Month Training Programme
The eight-month course takes place at the Skill Education Healthcare Centre at Government Girls High School Shambay Ismail.
Students from grades seven to nine participate in classroom and practical sessions. The training covers first aid, emergency response, health and safety, and basic patient care.
As a result, students gain skills that can help them respond to emergencies and support basic health needs within their communities.
Students to Receive Professional Certificates
Medical Superintendent of Mir Abdul Ghafoor Kalmati Teaching Hospital, Dr Hafeez Baloch, said the programme combines theoretical lessons with practical training.
He added that students will take an examination conducted by Bolan University of Medical and Health Sciences (BUMHS), Quetta.
Those who pass the assessment will receive certificates recognizing their healthcare training and practical skills.
Programme Supports Career Development
District Education Officer Gwadar Zahid Hussain Baloch and ESP Programme Manager Adil Naudzai said the initiative complements formal education with technical and practical learning.
Moreover, they said the programme can help students develop useful life skills and improve their future educational and career opportunities.
The initiative also introduces young students to healthcare-related skills at an early stage.
Training Could Expand Across Gwadar
Officials expressed hope that more Skill Education Healthcare Centres will open in public schools across Gwadar district.
This expansion could allow more students to access vocational healthcare training and practical skill development.
Furthermore, the programme reflects efforts to connect school education with practical skills that can benefit students and their communities.
