The New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA) marked a major milestone on July 21 as private airline South Air launched its first regular commercial flight, strengthening air connectivity and supporting Gwadar’s growing role as a regional trade hub.
The launch of scheduled operations is expected to improve passenger travel, facilitate business activities, and accelerate economic development across Balochistan and the wider region.
Regular Flights Connect Gwadar with Major Cities
Under its current schedule, South Air is operating two regular weekly flights connecting Karachi–Gwadar and Quetta–Gwadar.
According to the airline’s schedule, the next flight is set to depart on July 25.
South Air had previously conducted successful trial flights on May 25, paving the way for the start of regular commercial operations at the airport.
Boost for Trade and Tourism
The new air service is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Gwadar, Karachi, Quetta, and other parts of Pakistan.
Moreover, improved connectivity is likely to strengthen trade, encourage tourism, and support commercial activities throughout the Makran Division.
Business leaders believe reliable air links will make Gwadar more attractive for investors, entrepreneurs, and visitors while improving access to the region.

Experts say enhanced air connectivity will complement Gwadar Port’s maritime operations, creating an integrated transportation network for cargo and passengers.

The improved transport infrastructure could also generate new employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth across Balochistan.

Spread across approximately 4,300 acres, the New Gwadar International Airport is Pakistan’s largest airport by area.
The airport features modern aviation infrastructure capable of handling both domestic and international flights. Its advanced facilities are designed to accommodate future passenger growth while supporting increasing commercial and cargo operations.
