China’s Dalian International Economic and Technical Cooperation Group has expanded its engagement with Suriname after a high-level delegation visit focused on infrastructure, livelihood projects, sports, and cultural exchanges.
From July 5 to 11, 2026, Chairman Zhao Xijin led the delegation to Suriname, marking a new phase in the 27-year partnership between the company and the country.
Long-Term Infrastructure Partnership
During the visit, Zhao Xijin met with Surinamese President Simmons and senior government officials to discuss future cooperation.
He highlighted the group’s achievements since entering Suriname in 1999. Over the past 27 years, the company has contributed to the construction of more than:
- 1,300 kilometers of roads
- 11 bridges
- 650 affordable housing units
The projects have also created thousands of local jobs and trained hundreds of technical workers.
Expanding Cooperation Beyond Infrastructure
The company expressed its commitment to further supporting Suriname’s development through engineering, investment, financing, and integrated industrial solutions.
Moreover, Dalian Group proposed practical initiatives to support local communities. These include funding the renovation of two schools to improve educational facilities.
The company also plans to use its martial arts resources to promote Suriname’s participation in international Wushu activities and global sporting events.
Supporting Sports and Cultural Exchanges
The delegation highlighted sports and culture as new areas for bilateral cooperation.
Through martial arts cooperation, the group aims to strengthen people-to-people connections and support Suriname’s international sports participation.
In addition, cultural exchanges are expected to create stronger links between communities in both countries.
New Infrastructure Projects Underway
During the visit, the delegation inspected key projects, including the Outer Henasi seawall and an affordable housing project.
The 4.5-kilometer seawall project, with an investment of $11.22 million, will help protect coastal communities from tidal erosion.
Meanwhile, the housing project focuses on improving living standards by providing quality residential facilities.
Commitment to China-Suriname Partnership
Surinamese officials praised Dalian Group’s contributions and welcomed further cooperation in infrastructure, social development, and cultural initiatives.
The Chinese Embassy in Suriname also recognized the company’s achievements and described its work as an example of Chinese enterprise cooperation.
Future of Bilateral Cooperation
Dalian International Economic and Technical Cooperation Group said it will continue aligning corporate development with local needs.
Through infrastructure projects, community support, and cultural cooperation, the company aims to contribute to Suriname’s development while strengthening China-Suriname relations.
