Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, visited Shandong Province from April 19–20, 2026. The visit focused on expanding agriculture cooperation and investment opportunities.
He attended the 27th China (Shouguang) International Vegetable Science and Technology Expo in Shouguang. The city is widely known as China’s “Hometown of Vegetables.” Pakistan participated as the Guest Country of Honour, marking 75 years of diplomatic relations.
Meetings and Agricultural Collaboration
During the visit, the Ambassador met Mayor Zhao Tianbao. The mayor shared insights into Shouguang’s advanced agricultural systems. These include integrated supply chains and smart greenhouse technologies.
In response, Ambassador Hashmi highlighted Pakistan’s agricultural strengths. He also pointed out the need for modern technology and foreign investment. Both sides discussed practical steps to enhance cooperation.
Plans for smart greenhouse demonstration projects were reviewed. Discussions also covered expanding institutional partnerships and business linkages.
Technology Visits and Pilot Projects
A visit to Shandong Lisente Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd. provided exposure to modern farming solutions. The Ambassador also toured a high-tech agricultural demonstration base.
These facilities showcased climate-resilient farming methods. Advanced greenhouse systems demonstrated higher crop yields and multiple growing cycles each year.
Focus remained on launching pilot projects in Pakistan. Such initiatives aim to promote protected cultivation and high-tech agriculture.
Pakistan Pavilion and Trade Promotion
On April 20, the Ambassador inaugurated the Pakistan National Pavilion at the Expo. He described it as a symbol of strong bilateral ties and economic cooperation.
The pavilion displayed key Pakistani products. Visitors explored pink rock salt, Basmati rice, pine nuts, biscuits, and handicrafts. Decorative stone items also attracted attention.
Through this platform, Pakistan promoted its agri-food exports and cultural heritage.
Investment Opportunities and Future Cooperation
While addressing the Expo, the Ambassador encouraged Chinese companies to invest in Pakistan. Joint ventures in greenhouse technology and sustainable food systems were highlighted.
He emphasized that Shouguang’s success in smart agriculture offers valuable lessons. Water-efficient irrigation and digital farming systems were identified as priority areas.
Ongoing cooperation between Pakistan and Shandong Province was also noted. This includes joint research, training programs, and institutional partnerships.
Later, at a symposium on agricultural cooperation, he outlined future collaboration areas. These include seed development, cold-chain logistics, and modern irrigation systems.
The Ambassador invited Chinese enterprises to explore Pakistan’s market. He highlighted Special Economic Zones and investor-friendly policies. Full support from the Embassy was also assured.
Strengthening Long-Term Partnership
Interest was expressed in sharing Chinese expertise with Pakistani farmers. Proposals included exchange visits and a future symposium in Pakistan.
The visit reinforced the shared commitment of both countries. It also highlighted a strong focus on innovation and sustainable agriculture.
