A field survey for the upgrade of Pakistan’s Main Line-1 (ML-1) railway has started on the Karachi–Rohri section. Federal Railways Minister Muhammad Hanif Abbasi confirmed the development on Friday.
He described the survey as a key step in modernizing the country’s rail network. Moreover, he said it will support long-term infrastructure planning under the national development agenda.
Teams from National Engineering Services Pakistan are conducting detailed assessments along the route. They are documenting land, crops, trees, and existing structures to ensure accurate compensation for affected people.
The minister urged the public to cooperate with survey teams. In addition, he encouraged citizens to use official contact channels for complaints and feedback through project directors in Karachi and Sukkur.
The ML-1 project aims to increase train speeds, improve passenger facilities, and strengthen economic connectivity. It is also expected to provide a major boost to national economic activity.
Previously, the project reached a policy milestone in October 2025. The Central Development Working Party referred its designs and the Rs16.26 billion Havelian Dry Port project to ECNEC for final approval.
The upgrade is being implemented under the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which focuses on infrastructure modernization and economic integration.
