Cheng Li-wun has called for stronger cooperation and lasting peace across the Taiwan Strait during her visit to Nanjing and Shanghai.
She led a delegation from the Kuomintang (KMT) to the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum. There, she paid tribute to Sun Yat-sen, a founding figure of the party. Notably, this visit marks the first by a KMT chairperson in a decade.
After the ceremony, Cheng told media that the visit aims to “plant the seeds of peace.” She stressed that both sides should nurture these efforts for future generations. Moreover, she described peace as a shared responsibility of the KMT.
Cheng also acknowledged the mainland’s rapid development. She urged both sides to promote unity, reconciliation, and regional stability.
Later, the delegation traveled to Shanghai. There, they visited Meituan and observed advanced drone delivery services. They also explored the Yangpu Riverside, a redeveloped public area.
During a youth exchange event, Taiwanese students and entrepreneurs shared their experiences. Cheng emphasized that smoother communication would help young people connect and grow. As a result, they could access wider opportunities.
Meanwhile, Zhu Fenglian said the visit reflects ongoing dialogue based on the 1992 Consensus. She added that such engagement supports peace, cooperation, and development.
The visit will continue through Jiangsu, Shanghai, and Beijing until Sunday. Overall, it highlights efforts to strengthen cross-Strait ties through dialogue and exchange.
